How to Get Your Brand into Google AI Overviews
AI Overviews pull from content that directly, concisely answers the query and comes from a trusted, well-structured source. You get in by writing answer-first, structuring with schema, and earning authority.
The short answer
Google's AI Overviews don't quote whoever ranks #1 — they synthesise from sources that answer the question directly, concisely and credibly.
Google's AI Overviews don't quote whoever ranks #1 — they synthesise from sources that answer the question directly, concisely and credibly. To be one of those sources, structure beats length: lead with the answer, prove it, and make the page trivially easy for Google to parse and trust.
Write answer-first. Put a clear, ~40–60 word answer immediately under a heading that matches how people actually ask, then expand with specifics, a list or a table. Overviews lift tight, self-contained passages; walls of preamble get skipped.
Structure for machines: relevant schema (FAQ, Article, Product, HowTo), clean headings, fast server-rendered HTML, and internal links that establish topical depth. The clearer the structure, the easier you are to extract — and extraction is the whole mechanism.
Then authority: Overviews favour sources with real trust signals — established entity, citations, reviews, consistent profiles. You can't force inclusion, but you can make yourself the obvious, low-risk source to quote. Track appearances for your core terms and double down on the formats that get pulled.
